Ferrosilicon 75 is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon uses coke, quartz (or silica) as raw materials, and is made by electric furnace method. Because silicon and oxygen are easily compounded into SiO2, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking.

Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is an iron-silicon alloy made of coke, steel scraps, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted in an electric furnace. Since silicon and oxygen are easily synthesized into silicon dioxide, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking. At the same time, since a large amount of heat is released when SiO2 is generated, it is also beneficial to increase the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. At the same time, ferrosilicon can also be used as an alloying element additive, which is widely used in low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. Ferrosilicon is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy and chemical industries.



Usage:


(1) Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the steelmaking stage. The chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, so ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer in steelmaking for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. . Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel. When containing SiO.40-2.8%) and silicon steel for transformers (containing 2.81-4.8% silicon), ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent. At the same time, improving the shape of inclusions and reducing the content of gas elements in molten steel is an effective new technology to improve steel quality, reduce costs and save iron. It is especially suitable for the deoxidation requirements of continuous casting molten steel. Practice has proved that ferrosilicon not only meets the deoxidation requirements of steelmaking, but also has desulfurization performance and has the advantages of large specific gravity and strong penetration.


In addition, in the steelmaking industry, ferrosilicon powder can release a large amount of heat when sintered at high temperature, and it is often used as a heating agent for steel ingot caps to improve the quality and recovery rate of steel ingots.


(2) Used as an inoculant and a nodularizing agent in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, and has excellent casting properties and much better shock resistance than steel. In particular, ductile iron, its mechanical properties are at or close to those of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Therefore, in ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (helping to precipitate graphite) and spheroidizing agent.


(3) Used as a reducing agent in iron alloys. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very high, but also the carbon content of high silicon ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon (or siliceous alloy) is a commonly used reducing agent for low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.


(4) 75# ferrosilicon is often used in the high-temperature smelting process of metal magnesium in the Pidgeon process of magnesium smelting. To replace the magnesium in CaO.MgO, about 1.2 tons of ferrosilicon will be consumed for each ton of metal magnesium. Magnesium metal plays a big role.


(5) Use in other aspects. The ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. It can be used as a coating for welding rods in the welding rod manufacturing industry. High-silicon ferrosilicon is used in the chemical industry to manufacture products such as silicone.


Among these uses, the steelmaking industry, the foundry industry and the ferroalloy industry are large users of ferrosilicon. Together, they consume about 90% more ferrosilicon. Among various grades of ferrosilicon, 75% ferrosilicon is currently widely used. In the steelmaking industry, about 3-5kg of 75% ferrosilicon is consumed per 1t of steel.
